Ok so maybe this is a dumb question, but there is no outer "case" that goes around it to prevent spills/dust and stuff from getting it it?

true, but an outside case doesn't keep the dust out anyways. You don't get liquid close to it, unless you are water-cooling :P

This would only work if you have no kids/pets/clumsy people in your office.
