Hey guys,

I have seen a lot of folks talking about upgrades lately. Toms Hardware has a nice Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2362-6.html

I have taken that data and put it into a spreadsheet as well. I have attached it just in case some of you may find that useful. I like having it printed out and sitting beside me while I am shopping for cards.

This chart's even better, includes CPUs (thanks to Cent and TKC over at DaC for pointing me to this):

The second list says that the GTS 250 is better than a 4850, but wouldn't something like a Diamond HD 4850 1gig be better than a lot of the gts 250 cards being sold? I mean, doesn't the manufacturer and quality make some sort of a diff?

Maybe the list doesn't display third-party cards. Dunno.

Diamond is a quality manufacturer? Manufacturer just really doesn't matter, except for cooling options, warranty purposes and fanboism. Quality is pretty much consistent across all manufacturers.

ahem, yeah sry, bad example. but, ok, that clears things up.

another question, so is a 4770 512 MB better than a 4850 1024 MB in performance [or what about a 250 w/ 1GB? because now i'm confused. here...

And there's my lonesome 2600xt self all the way down at the 40 mark :crutch: which I am currently unable to use due to over heating.

What vid card is close to the 7800GT? I need a new one but am not willing to spend bleeding edge prices. I'm looking for cheap and effective. Any help is appreciated.

The PC Gamer chart puts it in the 45 degree area. I'd go for a 4870 if you are upgrading. Absolutely no reason to buy "bleeding edge" right now, when it will be obsolete within 6 months.

Though $150 for a new card isn't bad at all I'm looking for something to limp me along another 6-8 months for only a few games, Modern Warfare 2, Diablo 3... that's about it.

Whats roughly equal to the 7800GT? I want to be able to play with everyone but am not too picky on the uber graphics. I'll leave the single player games for my xbox 360.

Exactly what I was thinkin Omega. I just look for the price break and compare it to the performance chart and u can usually get to within 10% of the top card for a couple hundred dollars.

Buy me one too by the way.

For the $150 range get the GTX 260. You just wont get better poerformance for that price. Not to say the 260 isnt a performer. its ony a few % points below the 280 and will OC to beyond 280 spec easily.

And yes I HAVE been monitoring your communications; for years! :second:
