So is it possible that the hd 5870 is much better than the gtx 295? If it is, then it's a performance increase for a bit less money than the 295, but the thing is that websites have me confused, some saying it's the fastest single card now being sold and others showing benchmarks that prove them to be pretty equal to each other. Even though I don't plan to get one i'd like to know... which is better?

Oh, and second question- does this mean there will be price drops for 4870s this remaining october and november?

From all of the bench marks I have seen, the 5870 slightly out performs the 295.
The high frame rates were close on most of the tests, but the min and avg frames were a bit higher. The biggest thing the 5870 has going for it imo right now is the fact that the 5x series from ATI are the only DX11 cards on the market right now. That and I am really looking hard at the eyefinity.
