So, most of you know that Jett and Lobo have been together since the begining. Thats about to change.

I am being charged 37.50 a month for a old home page we dont even use, email address's for my family, and our two co-located servers. While this is way cheap, I am going to cancel my long relationship with Lobo.

I can get a Ventrilo or Teamspeak server for 50 players for 15.00 a month. Any game server for about the same, and switch my familys email address to qwest.net for free.

So, I am cancelling Lobo for cheaper better product.
In the next few weeks, all servers will be converted to a different host. Our home page is already with a different host than lobo, that only leaves the voice server and the RS server. I will convert these to a different host, we will still have all the servers we have now for half the price.

The only downside to this is that the email I have had for over 14 years is going to change, which to be quite honest does not effect you guys.

Stay tuned here for a schedule of the cross over.

Well D you know that anything that has a dedicated server downloadable for free will always have a home on my servers. I have gotten to where I prefer the linux variety but I could be coerced into setting up a windows server; especially once I get off Zen and onto VMware.

Ug, I had to deal with Zen at my last job.... I was tasked with developing how to convert a desktop that was designed to run on the corporate network to a laptop (effectively) that could be braught home in case of massive swine flu outbreak somewhere in the world (or similar issue). I had to deal with Zen and various other way out of date enterprise solutions.... which I did not enjoy at all.

Back on topic, Glad to hear about the cost cutting! And I hope the email change goes smoothly for you all. I know how bad a reformat is when you relize you forgot to back something up, and email switches are similar....

What I would say is, possibly you could do this:
1. Get a gmail account
2. Set it up to be able to send/recieve through your current email. (this should be possible with any email account you currently have access to)
3. Then after you get your new email have it forward to it, or keep the gmail and have it be your primary, or have the other new address set up the same way as the first.

This way it will 'capture' all your mail going to your old address even after your old address is gone. At least thats how it worked for me last time I had this situation. And gmail can even send mail as the old account.

Let me know if this helped at all.

Good idea in theory but it still suffers from the fact if for some reason you have to switch your email provider, your address will change. The best way to get around this is to own your own domain name and have an MX record(s) setup to point to whatever is actually hosting your email.

It does not suffer if your email provider changes. It only suffers if google changes.

This is what I am talking about: Tutorial (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=22370)

It only mentions sending from a different address, but it also recieves on that address as well.

That would make google one of your providers as you are sending emails from google. And it doesnt solve the problem of your email address actually being tied to a given provider and if for any reason you want to ditch that provider, you lose your email address.
