Hey guys. Once again I call on the great knowledge of the computer gurus of JETT. Trying to help a buddy out that is having a very odd problem with his Ventrilo. There are people that he just plain can't hear. He has never adjusted any volumes and yet still can't hear ANYTHING when most people talk. He then tried just turning a couple people up and it didn't help. Any ideas?

Has this always been happening? It could be a problem with the sound card not having enough "free outputs" to play....

This has always been a problem. Not sure I understand what you mean by "free outputs" though. Can you explain?

I know that he is using the sound card on the mobo, so will try to get that info from him later.

Ok, so I got some more info for you guys. My friend said that he has not done any audio adjustments and that some people are just extremely faint and he can barely make out any sounds. However, other people come through crystal clear.

Now for products he is using:

Mobo: (using on board audio card)
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=227&l4=0&model=558&modelmenu=2

Headphones:

If you all need any other info, let me know.

Try downloading and reinstalling the sound drivers from the mobo page?

Will try the drivers. Any other suggestions in case that doesn't work?

Try uninstall sound drivers, restart, Install again the driver for the board but first install the chipset driver for that board,(CD with ur mobo) later Sound driver. restart and test. Not audio. Sorry New sound card. No more test. :D

I'm confused......how can it be a "faulty" sound card if he can hear some people and all other audio features work just fine? I can understand it being a driver issue, but I'm confused about it being hardware.....Seems to me if it were hardware then it wouldn't be consistently working for the same people and not working for people with the same consistency. Blah, I hate computers

OK Ur audio work? U play games & music and have audio? If yes. Only need to reinstall ventrillo(this is the problem right?) and make the correct change to work. Or check the connection in ur mobo in the mic (back & front) if work check with other mic.

This problem existed in the previous version of Ventrilo as well. So a brand new version has been tried. I'm not 100% sure, but I think he's tried checking the connections of his head set.

Just because a sound card goes in a computer and works partially, doesn't mean it's broke. AC 97, Realtek, whatever sound is SHIT. It simply can't produce enough concurrent voices/channels of audio at once. I'm not saying this is 100% the problem, but I guarantee that if you put a "real soundcard" in the PC, it will work as intended.

Now this is something I can kinda accept. If the equipment is just crap, then it's crap. Thanks for the help. Haven't told him to try the drivers yet, but if that doesn't work, will probably just try to get him to toss a new sound card in.
