Is there a way to cut down on junk mail? I don't mind mail that is the standard envelope size but more and more I'm getting the credit card offers from Capital One. I won't get a CO credit card just out of principal now. There are also the grocery store fliers that are mini news papers.
I live in an apartment complex and the trash can by the mailbox is completely full of advertisements. I have to empty my mailbox every other day because of all the junk mail I get.
Everyone talks about being greener and I haven't heard of any way to reduce the junk mail. It's such a waste of resources.

LOL I so know about the Capitol One offers I get at least one a day. Since they are sent to my dads place while I am at college. I told him to just throw anything captiol one away. He now uses them for fire place starters. :)

Place them back in the mail, with Return to Sender.

Why is it better and how much do you pay for it?

I read it. But I want to hear from the horses mouth on exactly how much he pays and why he likes it.
Next time I want to hear from the other end of the horse I'll say, "hey razor". :D

cheap, 10 bucks, and my mail slashed in half in 2 weeks. Then get email alerts when CC companys checking credit card and you can stop, stop once, or stop all together. Easy interface and once set up (like this page) it runs itself!

Make sure you do not discard your credit card offers in the trash can by your mail box. That is one of the ways your identity can be stolen.

Has anyone ever thought of or attempted to design an internet program that we could use to 'return to sender' all the junk e-mail? It seems to my tiny mind that if there were one, we could inundate the poor senders of such 'flotsam' with a tsunami of drowning returned E-crud, perhaps thusly foiling their pusillanimous [look it up] efforts to solicit our attentions.

Wouldn't matter. I'd say at least 70% of Spam is sent from computers infected with a backdoor/trojan. To top that off, most spammers find unsecured SMTP servers, and send their messages through that. None of them are using "legit" email addresses. Now, what you can do about Spam. If you use a POP3 Email address... Mozilla Thunderbird has some awesome Junk Filtering Software and is VERY GOOD at learning. I haven't had alot of experience with the new Windows Mail with Vista and it's filtering.... Now for webmail, the best spam filters I've used is gmail by far.

Thunderbird is good, but it's not learning that I don't want pharmecutical or E.D. links, maybe it's trying to tell me something. I practically never see spam on my gmail account, I just delete it once the spam folder gets really big.

That works too! That's really more diabolical, considering the company has paid twice to send you crap, thus in return getting their crap sent back to them.

Ask the mailman what you can do to. I know the Post Office has some ideas too. Get a stamp that says Wrong address return to sender and put it back in the mail box might be an idea. They get it back and take you off the list.
First answer my post about AVG though. hehe
