Well, the time has come. I will be working on ad placement for multiple affilates that have accepted our site for advertising. So far we have been accepted by File Planet, our host Sonic Whale, Microsoft, Tiger Direct, and CompUSA. I will be working with the new add module to find the optimal places for the different types of ads and banners. Its about time we get this site paying for itself.

You're the guy with all the sales experience so I will leave this project up to you. Whatever you feel best suits our community I'm game with.

Things that I think need to be established are.
1.) Locations for banners and specific sizes of banners allowed.
2.) Prioritize banner positions so that certain positions garner more money due to higher focus.
3.) Have an agreement page for our sponsor to sign off on (can be all digital).
4.) Have a page detailing costs of banner slots and views.
5.) Determine the common view count for each banner slot so you can offer upgradeable packages.
6.) List in private forums what these adds get us. Is it money or discounts or what. List their contract period so we understand what kind of investment the sponsor is providing.

Don't get me wrong, I love sponsors but I want us to manage them instead of vice versa.

Where do you want help with this?

I think some good places for ads that would be seen, but not in the way would be on the right side of the main page. Have the "ventrillo status" be sponsored, have the different server monitors be sponsored. Maybe have a poll of the week, on the left and have it sponsored. The Fileplanet/Sonic Wave add is in an ok place, but would look better if it was half as tall, and spanned the width of the page (split the add into top and bottom halves and put them side by side). Just my .02

This is all done through LINKSHARE.
http://www.linkshare.com/

ALL ads on this page have to be associated with a social security number, mine. Reports on clicks, buys, and views are access through Linkshare ONLY.

I am still not convinced we need ANY ads and this is only a experiment for me.

I also only suggest getting sponsors you feel are worthy of our site. Just because they are a big corporate name doesn't mean they are Jett material. Ask yourself the question "Would I buy product from these people?" If you answer no then I wouldn't have them as a sponsor.

Question... I understand the need for advertisement.. and I love the jett community.. but other than a handful of people that use this site what do we really have to offer people that come to this site via banners?

Will you be marketing us as an online gaming community "clan" "guild" ect.. or will you be expanding to meet general interests for people who just like to browse the net and read gaming sites?

Dont know what I want, but i can tell you this, I dont need any money to run this site and I wanted to see how "far" LINKSHARE has come with tracking and paying when you use their links/ I like the idea, one page (Linkshare) for seeing the traffic and stats and stuff. Anyone can tell you I dont like adds on my sites and never used them in the past. I had a affilate block on old page that really got us nothing so I think the 3 days worth of adds are now disabled. Some of the programs would pay pretty good commissions but the look of a add free page gives me a woody.

Well I agree with your overall goal, its nice of course if the site is "Self-sufficient". I was just curious as to what route you were heading with them. Maybe i'll buy some ad space for my new site thats under construction! :P But really let me know how it goes overall D, I will need advertising on my new page and at this time I have no idea how to do it either.
