OK Bmbolicious's computer is a pick of....
I've been looking at Alienware gaming computers:
thought about buying her an early birthdayx-mas present--
Area51 7500 desktop
Also kind of like the laptop for myself--call it a midlife crisis?
Area 51 m9750
Some of you Uber computer guys take a look at these and give me your opinion please. As little tech talk as needed please. Of course if anybody can build a hard drive for her that is uber and cheaper I'm interested!!

I have a feeling the general response you will be getting is "too expensive - build your own"

Make Aries build you one. Save yourself a grand or more.

While Alienware is a pretty solid company to choose, they are insanely expensive. You really should try to find someone to build it for you. Seriously, a $1600-1800 computer through Alienware could probably be built by a friend for about $1000 +dinner :)
And don't forget, my birthday is coming up in September :)

Kae,
There is an INSANE amount of knowledge in this community on building some comps. If you come up with a budget, and what you want out of your system I am sure we can hook you up.... but i'd prefer breakfast  jk......

I'm all for buying your own good computer, because you get a warranty. :)
If you don't know how to fix it yourself, don't bother, just buy a good box, and you'll be much happier down the road.

Find a local REPUTABLE, keyword: REPUTABLE, computer shop, that will build it, as well as give you a service plan. Not only are you supporting a local company but you're also going to get REAL HELP FROM A REAL PERSON.
Or you can build one yourself. I always see people talk about "If something breaks it's covered by warranty" In 10 years of building PCs, and having built over 60 I've only had ONE, yes ONE component "out right die", in my own computer on part of my actions :D. I've NEVER received a DOA part from a supplier, and have never had random failures. The only failures I've had are with Power Supplies and Hard Drives, these things go bad, it's the nature of the part.
If I dare say, I'd reckon 95% of all DOA computer parts you read or hear about, come from improper handling and installation by the user of said parts.
Anyways my $.02!

I'm not trying to talk bad about Kae, but she is not a computer expert.
From looking at the one she mentioned, the 7500, it's a great deal.
2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 8800GT, 250GB Hard Drive, Good mouse and keyboard, good case, etc. all for 1200 bucks.
The only thing missing is the monitor, and she can likely use what she already has.
You're not going to save THAT much money. Possibly 200 bucks max on a setup like that, and your local computer shop isn't as likely to do as good of a job as Alienware. Plus, all the intangibles like a warranty, tech support, etc.

As usual, Kallall makes very good points :) I've known a couple people to own Alienware and they have had nothing but good things to say about their tech support. The turn around time on repairs can be lengthy, but what can you really expect when dealing with shipping? When factoring in the concept of you don't normally work on computers, I think your choice in Alieneware is a good choice.

Yes, this is true, but if you buy all the parts almost all of them will come with a individual warranty from the factory. We're just trying to save you some money :D

thanks guys--the last computer we bought was from Micro Center here in houston and it was a refurbished one, we have in the course of playing wow learned to replace various cards and have done so on this same computer and it still has lasted less than 2 years. while building one from scracth would be educational I could not do it alone as I would not really know where to begin. not, if ariees, has a little spare time, hmmmmmmmm...

Dude, seriously if you want a computer, let me know, give me your budget, I am geussing around the price of that alienware and I will build a computer for you. I built a quad core intel pc with a 8800 GS and 2gb of ram including a 22" widescreen monitor and the logitech DiNovo media desktop for under 1k less than 2 months ago...
Let me know, you would have to pay for shipping from my house also though, as I seriously doubt you live in PA...

I wouldn't trust Alienware. I've heard a lot of horror stories about their support level ever since they got bought by Dell.
