Hey there Healers. I'm actually getting a little flustered with healbot ATM. You see, I like to click my target through the raid frames with my mouse and then use my keyboard to cast the heal. Just the way I am. Anyway, the thing I like about Healbot is that it will show me which targets are in range by graying out the out of range people. Makes it very useful for AV/big raid rooms. I'm thinking of trying Grid out, but want to know if it has a similar feature. All I want the mod to do is show me the raid frames and go dark if the person is out of range. THAT IS ALL! Is this possible through Grid? Also, which one do all of you prefer? Or, is there something else that you use and why?

Stab - Grid can do that and more, I will look for the link I found on what addons to use with Grid that makes it very useful in raids.

Using two clicks to do one thing is kind of terrible. Set it up so you can use modifiers when clicking for your various casts. ie. click = target, rclick = gheal, shiftclick=lesser heal, shiftrclick=brainwave, etc.

While you make a very good point, it's hard to teach old dogs new tricks :( I usually do PVP healing and it's easier for me to see the HOT's on people (I'm a druid BTW) if I am actually targeting the person. I'm rather new to raid healing, so making the switch is a little clunky to me. And I'm totally a keyboard kind of guy when it comes to casting spells. Tried several times to become a clicker to try and make my life easier in raids, but it just hasn't happened :(

I use TrinityBars2 and Grid. I use mouseover macros for *all* of my holy spells, and I've got them bound to the keyboard using TrinityBars2 keybinding. As a result I'm just hovering over a player in the Grid panel and pressing a hotkey. I used to be a click and press player also, and used XPerl's raid frames - I would never go back to that now, though.

By default, Grid shows you who's in range by changing the color of their name (name fades if they're out of range). Unfortunately, its range calculation is not accurate at all - it will fade names of people who I can still reach (and I can't think of any reason it should be wrong, as my class has no talents that increase my reach with holy spells). Not that I'm bashing Grid, because I've seen many addons with this issue.

In the end, range isn't all that big a deal when considering your priorities. Here is a glimpse into how I prioritize my healing - I know nobody asked for it, but maybe someone will find it useful:

First, I generally have a healing assignment, and I'm attached to their ass the whole fight (I always /hug my healing assignment, so if you don't get a hug and I'm supposed to be healing you, speak up). Second, for my non-assignments I prefer those who Grid shows in range over those who are not. Of those who are in range, I prefer critical roles (mage tank on high king, warlock on leo), then tanks, then healers. Third, if a tank or healer is out of range, I attempt a heal anyway (in case Grid is wrong about range), and if that fails, I make a decision to move into range or not depending on how much healing they need. Finally, I'll consider AoE heals and DPS heals - I don't generally prioritize these by anything other than 'who needs it the most', as I've got enough on my plate already.

AoE heals are basically woven into this, as they're very situational and depend on the priority of the recipients. i.e. If I'm going to hit multiple tanks or healers, AoE takes first priority.

Thanks Crog. Really appreciate the insight. I'm always looking for tips on how to make myself better. I know I'm a druid healer and we don't have many, but if anybody has any tips/pointers for me, please don't be shy :) Seems like most people are using Grid these days. Think I might need to try that over Healbot. Healbot has been losing a lot of points with me lately and it seems Grid will do the things I like about Healbot. Anyway, thanks again.
