View Full Version : Farming for Sunwell Epics

So last night I was invited to a Sunwell pug. No joke... but it's not what you think. You see, this group was pugging *trash*. I've never heard of anyone doing that, or even considered what the point would be.
Well, it turns out that trash mobs in Sunwell drop a TON of epics. I mean we were getting an epic gem or item every other pull (sometimes two in one pull). I personally received a Crimson Spinel and Empyrean Sapphire in my two hours with the group. The group that was hosting this had a simple rule: We (the guild officers) keep the sunmotes, everything else gets distributed to the rest of the group at the end.
There were only about 15-20 of us in the instance at any one time, and in two hours we farmed over 20 epic gems and one epic item - Shivering Felspine (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34183), which I'm told is one of the best hunter weapons in the game.
Here's how we did it: We head into the instance, and down the first mob (a Sunwell Protector) - this guy hits hard, about 5-6k per hit on the tank, and he does about 4-5k damage with a chain lightning sort of thing every 3-5 seconds on random group members. You can't take more than one hit from it, so yeah, it's a bitch to heal through... and is basically a healer check for the instance. To kill him the group just bundled up on one guy, with the tank separated from us - bunch of shammys/priests on raid heals, druids on tank. Once that guy is down, there's an entrance with two large openings. We pulled the group on the right using four mages to sheep, tanking two of them, and druid sleeping one. At that point the instance is prepared, and then we just kept pulling the left group (4 mages, druid sleep, tank 2 again) but left the last mob alive, ran out, then came and did it again. We did it over and over again until the Sunwell Protector respawned (every 2 hours it does).
I think JETT should do this... if not for the enjoyment of being in a T6 instance to see what it's like, then to make reams of gold and get epic drops. :)

Sounds viable to me, I like the idea.

Are you even on this server anymore?

2 hours obtaining 1 epic item and alot of gems. Not exactly the best way to spend time progressing. In 2 hours you should be 3-4 mobs deep in tk/ssc and have gotten alot more gear for the raid which is more beneficial to the guild in the long run.
Sounds like it could have its +'s. But Bakka makes a good point!

yes actually.. alliance side though lol... I transferred my druid to a server with better pvp queue times because my play time dropped from about 40 a week to 5-6 a week when i got my promotion. :(
Bakka has a great point but I still like the idea of farming the trash. Those gems are expensive to buy and time consuming to obtain if you use badges. I would join a trash run on a raid off day if it was presented to me.

I disagree with Bakka... this thread isn't about progression, it's about farming trash for epics. The main reason for this is for money and fun, and a chance to see what Sunwell is like (that may mean more to some people than others).
Assuming I were talking about progression, then I would agree somewhat - and I say somewhat because I've seen no evidence indicating that this type of progression is even possible. In my experience, we've downed Lurker in SSC, but wiped innumerable times on Leo, and couldn't down VR in TK.
I'd rather spend 2 hours on Sunwell trash and make 1000g than spend 3 hours wiping on Leo with nothing to show for it. I'm not trying to sound like an ass; I wholeheartedly support progression. That's what Saturday is for, and I'm more than happy to spend 3-4 hours wiping if it means we're progressing, or at least learning something. Sunwell trash runs, on the other hand, can be put together on a whim any time of the week, and it's got immediate returns.

I picked up a Wand of Cleansing Lightduring the hour I ran it. We also grabbed 8 gems and the throwing weapon dropped also. I would argue it is well worth the effort. ;-)

Bliz needs to stop being lazy and remove trash epics from all pulls before the first boss.
You want Sunwell epics? Earn them
I think the reason Sunwell is dropping such great loot is simply because of xpac coming soon. We all remember what happened pre bc, people were working their asses off to get pvp gear because it was the equivelent to tier and then ass soon as bc hit they were replacing their purples with greens. It kinda feels like they are doing that same thing with the new gems, badge vendor, and the trash drops in sunwell. Maybe they are just trying ot get people ready for xpac cause once that hits all those T5 T6 people are not going to feel so special.

But it is about JETT getting 25 people together to do a raid. If you're not talking about the majority of this raid group being jetts, then why bring it to the forums as something jett should be doing. Bring it up as hey I started running with a pug group and if anyone wants to run with me, let me know and Ill see what I can do.
If you're getting 25 jetts together for a raid, the time would be better spent actually trying to progress than in farming sw trash; even it means spending that 2 hours doing nothing but wiping on Leo. It's not about the immediate return of 'Oooh look at what I got' but getting the raid the experience of encounter so that the next time you go in there you've gained that 2 hours of wipe time experience already and learned from it.

It was a rhetorical question. I knew the answer, was just trying to prove a point. Obviously, it was over your head.

That's where you're wrong. Discussions are always good. If you have an idea you should always present it. No one is mad at you for bringing in a new idea. Keep them coming.

Dont apologize, you did nothing wrong. If you want to do this I encourage it, there is a guy that always spams in trade to go do it, But if jett ever puts a random raid together, we will continue to go to ssc until we can get leo down again or ZA :P
