Is it possible to have communication and sound from Ventrilo only through a headset while all other sounds (game, music app, etc.) come from the pc speakers?

Some ppl and forums say you can, as long as you sound card supports blah, while others say it absolutely can't be done. Anyone know something?...other than 'use vent separately on another pc=prob solved'

I imagine you would need a sound card with dual outputs. Where you could assign outputs. Or dual sound cards... Not sure it's even possible beyond that.

Yes, this is very possible. I have a USB headset and my speakers get plugged into my sound card. Set all of your sound to come through the headset through your computer settings and then you can go into your game settings (at least WoW lets you do this) and change your in game settings to go through your sound card. Should work just fine. You can obviously reverse that order if you like, but this is what I do.

Hope that helps.

stability, about the usb headset, does it install its own drivers or something? I'm only familiar with headsets that use the 3.5mm out/in jacks...

I could probably set my recording device to the usb headset, then go to ventrilo and set both the input and out put to the usb headset, too, given that the headset has a driver

Yeah, mine have their own drivers and it's a plug 'n play ability. Super easy to use. I have logitech and I tried to find them on newegg for ya, but they all look alike lol. If you want, I can check the model number when I get home and link them to ya. They are FANTABULOUS!! I love em :)
