Hooray...I get to pay the bill because some idiots can't run their company and the average Joe can't pay his own damn mortgage.
I can't wait until we get nationalized health care and I get to fit the bill for overweight people that smoke and drink to much.
GG socialism.

Assuming you have insurance through your employer, you already do. That's kinda the concept of insurance...

In certain countries, the government provides health insurance to all citizens. So the difference would then be that tax dollars would be paying for it rather than citizens choosing if they want it or not.

thanks for pointing out the obvious but how do you know if he even has insurance? i think the point he's making is nationalized healthcare forces him too.

Ah come on now no need to get defensive about it. I said assuming. ;)
The healthcare industry is broken in every possible way in regards to the consumer. The healthcare professionals are making a killing and the insurance companies are making an even bigger killing considering all they are doing is taking the consumer's money and not giving it to the healthcare professional providing the overpriced medical care.
I am not sold on "universal" healthcare, but there does need to be a complete overhaul of the system and that is not going to happen without some form of government intervention.
If we can provide for other nations we can provide for our own. For the life of me I can not wrap my brain around how politicians have turned healthcare into a wedge issue.

In a sense, we have doubled our National debt w/ this take over. Somebody needs to goto jail. I saw some exec from Fannie got a 14mill bonus last month.
Maybe we should take over SouthWest, Wal-Mart, and all the oil companies, since they make money and could help us.
Thats the American dream isn't it? Work your butt off and they take it all? Oh wait...

Not to mention, all this housing crap has tanked the stock market so my 401k and other investments are taking a nose dive atm.
No wonder the government can't do a budget, the rest of the country can't seem to figure one out either.

Here's the kicker that makes this possible though. These companies were/are federally insured. This is what gives the government the "right" to come in and do what they feel is right. Now before you all attack me because you are under the impression that I think the government is correct in doing this, I'm just stating how the system works ;)

if i understand the situation correctly from the top of my head, isn't it not just freddie mac and fannie mae's fault for this mess? cuz like a lot of ppl dont have a budget and just spend money they dont have, and then foreclosure happens and these companies have to take the houses that they'd rather not want and now they're stuck with houses they have to pool and resell. is that sort of the situation? cuz i want to clarify this whole thing [and is 'federally insured' the same thing as FDC or something like that?]

Yep those of us that planned for the future are hurting, my 401k is worth half of what it was. We need to get the federal government out of everything except providing monies for our defense. Let the states run the welfare programs and collect the taxes for the programs they want. Texas would have very few and I would get to keep my money!!!

Is this a slam? I can't really tell.
There are many reasons, some I know and some I don't, these companies went south. Banks giving $100k loans to people that probably shouldn't even get $500 dollar credit cards, and people jumping on these loans without actually understanding what they are doing or having any type of financial responsibility to pay for them.
So, not only do I and many others get to pay our mortgage, we also get to pay for other peoples mortgages.

The consolation is, this bailout money has to be repaid by the shareholders before they can take any future dividends, true story, but I agree with Bear.

if you wanted to describe Americans to somebody, this did a great job of it. We are greedy little people that can't wait for things and foolishly just put everything on credit. This is why I don't use credit cards for anything other than buying gas to keep my credit score up. Americans are STUPID when it comes to credit cards. If I just offended somebody by saying that, use it as a wake up call. Credit cards were designed for emergencies and should be used as such. If you want something other than a car or house, you should be saving up for it, not building up 10's of thousands of dollars in debt.
Sorry all, rant over lol
Back on topic though.

yeah i agree with ya stab and basically everyone here. ppl want a +40 inch plasma and they get it. a new phone they get it. and so on. last thing on their mind is 'can i pay for it?' and what goes out the other end without thought is 'yes, i can use credit so i can afford it.' when time comes to paying dues, its over and now the gov has to back comps which uses money coming from us. idk if its simply stupidity or maybe theres a faulty education being given on economics or something... ??? and thats a good idea with gas to keep a good cred score.
